Respecting Animal Rights
We can say that animals and human beings have some similarities in the sense that they have consciousness and they are also very responsive. Animals have their differences, and they are unique in their own ways, and many pet owners would tell you that each respond differently and they need care and protection too. There are people who think that animals cannot feel pain or because their intelligence is lower than human beings that they should not be given the care and nourishment that most pet owners generously give to them.
There are many people today who do not care about the lives of animals and they don’t see the animals’ right to life that they deserve. Humans are a lot superior than animals and that is seen in the moral realm also, and there are advocates of this belief. Another group would tell you that the feelings, and experiences of animals are much lower than a human being’s and thus should not be given the same status as a human has. These belief systems came from a wrong sense of righteousness and entitlement. That animals have rights will become significant if people will overcome their cognitive biases.
Living in a clean, safe place where they can survive is another right that should be given to animals. We all know humans have this kind of behavior to destroy the natural world like what they do to lush rainforests which soon becomes flat lands and rich coral reefs are turned into ocean wastelands. Humans who destroy the natural ecosystem for their own gain are guilty of depriving animals a basic right to have a clean and safe home. This is the reason why the green movement is also closely linked with the animal rights movement.
Using animals for products is perhaps one of the most disconcerting displays of human greed that has grown in popularity. Economic incentive makes this people think that it is alright to kill animals for the sake of gain. For example, elephants are killed for their tusks, sharks are killed for their fins, and other people who kill animals because of the commodity they get from it. It is disturbing how the basic rights of animal life are discarded and replaced with a dollar sign. There should be alternative to animal products if we want to preserve their rights to life without suffering.
The core beliefs of animal rights activities are guided by their unwavering morality. Below are some of these rights that animals rights advocates believe in.
Animals have consciousness and should not be compared to machines or objects. Animals also have interests. Human beings should be responsible to respect interests of animals. Animals should not be exploited by human beings. Treating animals as objects disregards their rights by human beings. Humans have no right to kill animals.
If one is to discuss animal rights in its entirety , then you can come up with volumes of the subject.
