Icelandic folk-rock band Kaleo has announced that their new studio album will be released on June 5, The upcoming album will be called Surface Sounds and is already available for pre-order. Lead singer JJ Julius Son has drawn in fans from all around the world with his unique voice and interpretation of a combination of classic Icelandic folk, American country, and rock music. Their new album will surely be an interesting addition to their usual sound, as years of touring and new inspiration have influenced the band and their style in many ways. A fourth single, appearing on the album, "Backbone" was released on 17 April Best friends since attending elementary school outside of Reykjavik, band leader JJ Julius Son, drummer David Antonsson, and bassist Daniel Kristjansson began playing together at the age of 17 before adding guitarist Rubin Pollock to the mix in They named the band Kaleo, which means "the voice" in Hawaiian, and started their career with a handful of well-received shows at the Iceland Airwaves music festival, which was the band's first major public appearance. By year's end, Kaleo had signed with Sena, the country's main record label. Their self-titled debut went gold in their home country, spawning five number one hits and inspiring their first European tour. In , the band gained further attention with their single "All the Pretty Girls", which garnered over 87 million streams on Spotify. The album peaked at number 16 on the Billboard ,  and the band embarked on a tour, the Handprint Tour,  in order to promote it. The tour began on 11 September and concluded on 30 November The band embarked on a second tour, the fall Express Tour,  which started on 25 August in Anaheim , California and ended on 25 November in Moscow , Russia. Welcome back, Kaleo! Both songs were penned by the group's frontman JJ Julius Son, who gets a chance to showcase his soulful yet powerful vocals on each track. So that's just my creative process. You can hear that whistle playing a role in the more tender "I Want More," while "Break My Baby" is a bit more hooky and groovy, showcasing the range of his vocal and a gritty, bluesy approach. Each session further enriching the sound and bringing their own unique elements to the surface.
