Inspired by British true metal legends such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Saxon, vocalist Peter Ellis wanted to create a band that celebrated the English heavy metal heritage, and Monument was born in With tours, festival appearances, and two studio albums under their collective bullet belts, Monument delivers their third album Hellhound , with Tony Newton Iron Maiden as producer. Fundamentally, and to the point, with Hellhound Monument nails it. All the songs are packed with the essentials: twin guitar harmony in riffs and solos lots of solos , gallop and groove from the rhythm section, and Ellis' assertive and strong, yet melodic and clean vocals. The production is organic and crisp, but not squeaky clean like a Nashville recording. The songs within Hellhound are consistent and constant from the start. You'll find more power metal gallop with songs such as Hellhound, Wheels Of Steel, and the brisk Attila.

When does homage cross over into plagiarism? When does admiration become unhealthy obsession? These are questions one must confront when reviewing Hellhound by U. How big? Rob Halford once found these guys going through his garbage in the dead of night, and Bruce Dickinson caught them installing micro-cameras in his cockpit. Their delivery is so close to the Teutonic marauders that the song could be dropped on any of their myriad albums and fit in perfectly. The song itself sounds far more like Headhunter era Krokus than Priest , so the whole thing feels like a bit of a clusterfuck.

Vinyl LP pressing. Hellhound is Monument's third studio album consisting of nine original tracks plus three bonus tracks of pure British heavy metal. Twin guitar melodies, loud bass tones, thundering drums and soaring tenor vocals are all present in abundance. Lyrically, the album draws inspiration from a variety of sources like history, urban London life, the occult and personal relationships. Tony Newton's inclusion as the band's producer has captured the band's real sound for the first time and that sound is unmistakably British. Peter Ellis -the voice of Monument- comments: "Hellhound is, in my opinion, the best album we have released so far in our career. The song writing is a lot more mature on this album and the songs are very cohesive. Musically, it is the natural progression of Hair Of The Dog, with lots of twin harmonies, loud lead bass tones etc.
Monument are a band from East London and they aim to bring back the true sound of British Heavy Metal. A very ambitious goal, especially because most of the originals are still alive and kicking and still releasing good to great albums. Monument have been on their mission since but have not left a big impression in central Europe yet.
